At Silvermist, learning is more than just lessons — it’s an adventure.
Children thrive in our fun, hands-on environment where every day brings new experiences. We learn in the garden, chop wood, create art and woodwork, practice with slingshots, and build independence through real-life skills. Our adventures often take us beyond the farm too — from train rides into the city library, to visiting other farms, to afternoons at the bike park.
This week, we accompanied our Littlelies (our youngest learners) to the Dalebrook tidal pools. It was a day filled with ocean treasures, low-tide exploring, and trips on trains.

What made it extra special was how our older Silvermist kids stepped into the role of mentors — guiding, helping, and sharing their knowledge with the younger ones. Moments like these remind us that learning is just as much about relationships and community as it is about knowledge.

But Silvermist isn’t only about practical skills. We also build strong academic foundations in ways that spark curiosity.
Each week begins with our Basic Facts routine — a simple, playful approach to mastering math skills that gives children confidence and fluency without the pressure of rote learning. Our Rhythm of Learning keeps children engaged by starting with a question, exploring through problem-solving, and only teaching what’s needed, when it’s needed. This approach makes learning natural, purposeful, and memorable.

One of the things we love most is how worldschoolers and local South African children learn side by side. Even when we’re not traveling, the world comes to us through the friendships and cultures represented in our community.
Right now, we’re a small, close-knit group of about 12 children. It feels like family — but with enough energy and diversity to keep life exciting. We welcome short visits, as well as medium- and long-term enrolments.
If you’re a local parent looking for an alternative approach to education, or a worldschooling family passing through, Silvermist is a place where children can explore, grow, and feel at home — all while preparing for the world they’ll one day help to shape.
